What actually happens

Ninety minutes

01

You sit down

Six glasses, a water jug, and a card with the night’s theme. No spitting required, though the bucket is there if you’re driving.

02

We pour and talk

One wine at a time, with who made it, where the fruit came from, and why it isn’t sold in a supermarket. Questions encouraged; jargon discouraged.

03

Food arrives

A tapas plate lands halfway through, built around the wines rather than the other way round. Tell us about allergies when you book.

04

You take something home

Anything you loved goes home at cellar price, and your tasting fee comes off the bill. Most people leave with two bottles.

Seats are held on payment. We run small rooms, so a no-show costs us the whole table, prepaying keeps the tastings running and the prices where they are.

Changed plans

Move or cancel free up to 24 hours before. Inside 24 hours we'll credit the full amount against wine in the shop, nothing is ever just lost.

Questions

Do I need to know anything about wine?

No. Roughly half the people at any hosted tasting have never been to one. The only thing we ask is that you say when you don’t like something, it’s far more useful to us than politeness, and it makes the next pour better.

I’m driving. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Spittoons are on every table and nobody blinks. Six 60ml pours is a little over two standard drinks if you swallow all of it, so pace yourself or spit, and there’s plenty of free parking if you’d rather leave the car and walk back for it.

Can you cater for allergies and non-drinkers?

Yes to both. Tell us in the booking notes and Josie will rebuild the tapas plate. Non-drinking guests pay $18 and get the food, the talk, and a flight of Marlborough grape juice and alcohol-free sparkling.

What if I want to buy the wine afterwards?

Everything poured is on the shelf. Your tasting fee comes off the first bottle, and club members get their usual discount on top. See the wine shop for what's in stock today.

Are children welcome?

During the day, absolutely, there are macarons and a hot chocolate that takes the job seriously. Hosted tastings and the Grower’s Table are R18 after 5pm.

Once a month, no more

New arrivals, first refusal.

We release library bottles and tasting seats to the list before they go public. That's the whole pitch.
